Discover a haven for nomadic spirits, where the Berlin Bohemian Hostel redefines traditional accommodation with adaptable spaces and boundless possibilities.
The competition encourages participants to change their conventional narrative towards hostel design and create an interesting, fresh and unorthodox vision for the living spaces of the future. Can we change the idea of rigid dormitories and room planning in hostel architecture to something different and flexible?
Architecture affects our intellect and emotions, influences our performance and motivates achievement — mostly on a subliminal basis. The idea of the competition is to break all the physical and metamorphic divisions into a radical system that provides a different experience to travellers in terms of their built quality, aesthetics, colour, form and overall spatiality.
The competition seeks to impart more meaning to the idea of co-living through architecture. A hostel should be more than ‘just a sleeping space’ to become a portal where people connect and collaborate. The proposal should manifest the idea of a bohemian lifestyle into a physical architectural expression where artists, explorers and all sorts of travellers can submerge themselves in.

Project Objectives
Shape an architectural landmark for the people of Berlin that would enrich the community life.
The hostel must become an important landmark for the district and an architectural icon that attracts more and more people. The co-living space should become a strong reference point that would generate interest from not only the travellers and artists but also from locals and the general public who will be spectators and third parties to the bohemian way of living. The hostel should promote communal harmony and enrich the lives of all kinds of organisms around it.
Design Inspiration
Bridging Nature and Neighbourhoods: Where Every Terrace Tells a Tale
The project incorporates carefully designed breathable areas situated between the building blocks, serving as semiprivate spaces for residents to engage in social interactions. These terraces not only offer opportunities for community bonding but also provide a serene environment for relaxation and leisure. Enhanced by lush landscaping, these green spaces extend the natural beauty of the surroundings to higher levels of the building, fostering a sense of tranquillity and connection with nature. Strategically shaded by the upper blocks of the building, these terraces offer respite from the harsh glare of the sun, creating comfortable outdoor environments even during peak daylight hours. This thoughtful design approach ensures that residents can enjoy the benefits of outdoor living while staying protected from excessive heat and glare.
Moreover, these terraces serve as nodes for social networking, offering residents a peaceful retreat where they can gather, unwind, and foster meaningful connections with their neighbours.
